Revamped Reporting: Kansas Businesses Shift from ‘Annual Reports’ to Biennial 'Information Reports' in 2024

Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab is reminding Kansas businesses to embrace a positive change starting in 2024. Previously, Kansas businesses were required to file annual reports with the Secretary of State’s office each year. Now, instead of filing an “Annual Report,” businesses will submit the same information every two years on an “Information Report.” This change stems from a 2021 legislative change Schwab anticipates will “reduce paperwork for Kansas business owners, allowing them to focus more on their business and less time with the government.”
- New businesses formed in an even year will file their first information report in the next even year and subsequent reports in even years thereafter.
- New businesses formed in an odd year will file their first information report in the next odd year and subsequent reports in odd years thereafter.
- Existing businesses will file based on the year their formation documents were first filed with the Kansas Secretary of State.
